Hey yo!

I'm quite back on my blogging habits after more than a year of hiatus. haha

So lately, I came across these YouTube videos on Tagalog songs being translated into other foreign languages like Japanese or English. It stirred up some interest on my part to also try translating local songs to the languages I know. As someone really growing up speaking the Cebuano language (though I'm not from Cebu), I also wanted to test my skills in Tagalog and English, the other two languages I'm kind of fluent with.

So here, I present my English and Tagalog translation of the Cebuano song, "Papictura ko nimo, gwapo" by Marie Maureen Salvaleon. I hope my translations haven't gone too far from the original lyrics.

This is also for the benefit of non-Cebuano speakers. Enjoy!

[Original]

I.

Ref:
Haaaa… ganahan pud kong maduol gamay
Kana… ganing magtupad ta
‘Nya bukton nimo sa ‘ko ga-agbay

Bitaw uy, ang ako ra kay….

Chorus:
Pa-pictura ko nimo (ahaha) gwapo
Kadyot ra ni, hinay ra ga’ing 1,2,3
Pa-pictura ko nimo (ahaha) gwapo
Upload dayon’s Facebook
Bahala’g usa ka “like” ra pud
Pasuya gud gamay’s uban
Bisag pinatakilid na lang
Papicture ra ko nimo
Kadyot ra jud, gwapo

II.
Pwerteng makahisgot
Magpangita kung wala ka
Pero suwayi’g pakita
Tago-tago pud akong drama

(Refrain to Chorus)

Bridge:
Gwapa, daplini sa
Give chance na pud intawon diha
Sige na, oh pwede ba
Ako napuy magpatagad
Ako napuy mutupad
(Chorus)

[TAGALOG]

I.

Ref.
Haaaa….gusto kong makalapit ng konti
Yung tipong magkatabi tayo

Chorus:
Papicturin mo ako sa iyo (ahhh), pogi
Sandali lang ‘to, mabagal lang naman na 1,2,3
Papicturin mo ako sa iyo (ahhh), pogi
Iuupload nang diretso sa Facebook
Bahala na kung isa lang ang maglilike
Nagpapaselos lang ng konti sa iba
Kahit ika’y natagilid na lang
Papicturin mo ako sa iyo
Sandali lang ito, pogi

II.
Marami akong masabi
Naghahanap kung wala ka
Pero subukan mong magpakita

Tago-tago din ang aking drama

(Ref. and Chorus)

Bridge:
Ganda, tabi ka muna
Give chance din naman kayo diyan
Sige na, oh pwede ba
Ako naman ang magpapapansin

Ako naman ang tatabi
(Chorus)

[ENGLISH]

I.
Handsome, I know you are known to many
I’m included to those who are definitely crazy with you
But I think your impact to me is still minimal
Just kidding, seems like it has gone big already
It’s because, I’m somehow not desperate
I just let them
Crash on you to hug you, even kiss you
But dear, they can only reach your cheeks

Ref.
Haaa…I want to get nearer
Like when we’re beside each other
Then your arms would cling on my shoulders
Oh well, what I’m after is….

Chorus:
Let me take a picture of you, handsome
This won’t take long, just a short 1, 2, 3
Let me take a picture of you, handsome
Upload this immediately on Facebook
I don’t mind if I only get one like
Just trying to make others a bit jealous
Even if you're on a side view
Let me take a picture of you
This won’t take too long, handsome

II.
Handsome, I know
Your admirers are lining up
They can’t be counted, they’re more than a thousand
Including me, but I’m not too visible because
My version is just too simple
Because my beauty is kind of shy
When you are the topic
I discuss too much on you
I keep on searching on you when you’re absent
But try to show up
Then hiding and hiding becomes my drama

(Refrain to Chorus)

Pretty, step aside
Give chance to others here
Oh please, can it be that
I’m the one getting his attention

I’m the one standing beside him?

If ever you had encountered this statement in your mind, I believe you're suffering from excessive internet addiction.

Truly, in this modern world we’re living in, internet is what really bridges the gap among people of different cultures and of interests. It has become an avenue for all sorts of information humans have gathered to share to the world through several websites created that matches the sentiments of the common audience. Unlike dictionaries, journals or encyclopedias, common questions can be answered through a series of mouse clicks or taps and voila! The screen shows you what you needed. Instant as it may seem, we students cannot always take this advanced technology as the center of our everyday living.  Sometimes, it’s more important to consider how staying inactive in the internet arena can be a greater advantage to our part. And here listed below are some of its perks:

1. You get more time to entertain the real world around you

Basically, life is all about interacting with one another, but it should not only be exclusive to social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and the likes. There’s a lot more to socializing in the outside world. You’ll meet more people, real people of different personalities, from all walks of life. It isn’t about just enclosing yourself to the four corners of your room. You also need some time to grow and get to know your environment through seeing them personally. It doesn’t really necessarily mean that you have to be Mr. or Ms. Friendship to be one. Sometimes, what you think are your friends whom you have only met in different social media sites might be someone who betrays you instead. And besides, for what purpose will appreciating the real beauty of nature and the outside world do if we were meant to revolve our lives to internet lifestyle in the first place?

2. You get to know and develop your hobbies and interests

Believe me, it is really fulfilling when you get to discover, enhance your hidden abilities, and do something more productive especially within this long vacation. Even without the participation of the internet, you can start seizing the extreme boredom through a couple of good reads, having guitar and musical instruments’ sessions or through starting a few scribbles on your paper using your vast imagination. To make it more effective, you can always challenge yourself and set a personal goal which will serve as your basis whether you have achieved your target or not. To set myself as an example, I conducted my own 30-day writing challenge in order to test my writing skills and to publish entries on my new blog as well. Although still on the second day, I still believe that I will be able to pursue my goal up to the end of this challenge. Aja!

3. More healthy and fit lifestyle is attained

A famous saying goes like this: Early to bed, early to rise, makes man healthy, wealthy and wise.  It might sound a cliché to internet addicts but mind me, less exposure to internet and to computer screens reduce the risk of eye problems, radiation and even obesity. Reducing your internet hours allows you to have more time to sleep and more time to do what you want. Moreover, you get to have more active lifestyle through indulging in early morning exercise, gym sessions and even sports. These activities might be more tiresome compared to just sitting all day and night in front of the computer screen, but they are indeed willing to reward you with a more healthy and fit body in return.

4.  You’ll learn to appreciate the essence of learning the “slowly but surely” way

Probably most of us students regard internet as our instant source of answers to our assignments, queries or inquiries, thanks to the searching powers of Google, Yahoo! and other search engines. However, it doesn’t always apply most especially for subjects concerning pure sciences wherein you have to consult books and journals in order to aid your research. Based on my experience as a student in several chemistry courses, it’s hard to understand the concepts written in some webpages since they are either complicated or summarized unlike when you consult your questions to some reference chemistry books found at the library. Although e-books are readily available on the internet, I could still say that there really is a big difference when you have the actual printed copy of a book. Just scanning the pages of the book makes you learn things little by little until you are able to arrive with the whole thought, or learning in a slowly but surely way. It’s like paying homage to the traditional sources of information. Moreover, it’s also connected to the stated perks earlier. Doing them would also require the slowly but surely way. As the saying goes: There is no elevator to success, take the stairs.

 5. Maximized concentration on an assigned task

As I had incorporated earlier, through internet, we can do everything we wish to do online. With this fact, it is a disadvantage for students who wanted to have full concentration on their study periods, especially on major examinations. Just having your sources on printed books reduces the possibility of opening unnecessary sites which will divert your attention and lose your concentration. This phenomenon has been proven and tested, based on my personal experience. It is true to my case that whenever I try to research something, I would always end up opening my Facebook account first before finding the information I wish to obtain. Thus, I don’t use internet when I study for exams.

Actually, there are a lot more perks out there apart from these five, and as we can see, they are all interconnected. But for a student who knows how to balance everything he or she does, he or she does not need a list like this just to convince him or her to regulate his or her time dealing with the internet. After all, it’s all about how to control.

Is it really necessary for me to make an introduction before writing things?

Anyways, I now formally grace the existence of this webpage through this brief post.
